Desert Beauty

hot, scorching breath of
rugged land carries stillness
into soft beauty
Painting this desert flower, my thoughts think of Vi from Soul Food who doesn’t just live in the desert, she reflects the majestic qualities of the desert. I added a new brush stroke to create a raking effect for subtle grooves in the flower with the desire to give it a more waxy, tougher cactus petal. I continued painting layers of purple and liquifying the overall flower in that I still wanted to maintain a light, ethereal desert beauty.

glad you listened -that violet for Vi is rich and lovely!
Do you live near a desert? We have big expanses of desert in Australia, but no cactus. Instead we have wonderful red earth with amazingly colourful wildflowers that will only come out if there is some rain - which may not occur at all in some years. Gorgeous painting!
How lovely the image is dear!!! It looks as though it is early morning and the sun is glowing through the petals!!
The desert here in the US is the Sonoran Desert. It is Giahugic!!! it takes up a good part of eight or nine states in the US and some states in Mexico.
The tenacity and beauty of the life that defies the dryness and heat never ceases to amaze me.
Hugs and kisses,
